유엔평화대학(University of Peace) 석사과정 장학생 모집 안내

유엔평화대학(University of Peace, 코스타리카 소재)은 일본재단(Nippon Foundation) 후원 하에 동 대학이 개설한 "아시아 지도자 프로그램(Asian Leaders Programme)" 석사과정에 우리나라 학생들이 지원하도록 홍보해줄 것을 요청해왔습니다.

아시아 지도자 프로그램은 유엔평화대학과 필리핀 아테네오 대학에 개설된 국제 평화 및 안보분야를 전공하는 19개월 석사 과정으로, 동 과정에 선발된 학생은 학비, 생활비, 항공료 등을 장학금으로 지원받게 됩니다.

o  필리핀 아테네오 대학(2010.4-8월간 및 2011.2-6월간)과 코스타리카 유엔평화대학(2010.8월-2011.2월간)에서 각각 수학한 후 국제기구, NGO 등에서 인턴으로 4개월간 실무연수

UPEACE와 UNU의 차이점에 대하여 UPEACE 줄리아 마르통 르페브르 총장은 이렇게 말했다.
“UNU는 유엔 산하 연구중심대학으로 학위가 없지만 UPEACE는 유엔의 유일한 학위수여 대학으로 유엔에서 활동하는 인재를 양성한다.”  2006.12.26 서울신문 인터뷰

Headquartered in Costa Rica, the United Nations-mandated University for Peace was established in December 1980 as a Treaty Organization by the UN General Assembly. As determined in the Charter of the University, the mission of the University for Peace is: “to provide humanity with an international institution of higher education for peace with the aim of promoting among all human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress, in keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations.”

연구활동을 중심으로 하는 대학으로서 캠퍼스나 학생이 있는 것은 아니며, 전세계에 13개의 연구소·연수 센터와 프로그램이 설립되어 있다. 또 30개 이상의 국제연합 기구 및 100개 이상의 세계적인 연구소와 협력관계를 맺고 있다. 국제연합대학의 독자적인 연구·연수센터와 기존의 연구소에서 국제연합대학과 협조·제휴하는 기관으로 나눌 수 있으나, 후자가 중심이 된다.

UPEACE 석사과정을 마치면 NCRE 1차 서류전형을 면제 받는다고 한다. 반기문 전 외교통상부 장관님이 UN 사무총장이 되고나서 몇가지 국제기구 책도 나오고 관심이 나름 고조되고 있는 것 같다. 분담금에 비해 매우적은 대한민국 인력들이 국제기구로 진출하고 있는 게 현실이다. KOICA를 통해서도 좋고, 외교통상부를 이용해도 길이 많이 있다. 특히 여성부에서도 자체적으로 Support하고 있는 부분이 있으니 잘 찾아보자. 막연하게 어렵고 힘든 곳이 아니다 라고 감히 말하고 싶다. 도전한다면.. 국내 취업문보다 쉽게 열릴 것이다. 진짜루~^^; 인류 평화에 이바지하겠다? 그럼 University for Peace도 옵션에 넣자!!
